Single Wall, Double Wall, Ripple & Kraft: Choosing Cups for the Gulf Climate

25 April 2025

Back to Blog

Which paper cup construction suits hot karak, iced lattes and long Gulf summers — a plain-English comparison of single wall, double wall, ripple and kraft.

The Gulf climate shapes cup choice more than most buyers realise: long hot summers push cold-drink volumes up for nine months of the year, and premium venues want a cup that feels as considered as the coffee.

Single wall

One layer of food-grade board. Lightest, cheapest, stacks tightest — the volume workhorse for busy cafés, cold drinks and vending. Add a sleeve when you occasionally need extra grip.

Double wall

Two layers with an insulating air gap: hot inside, comfortable outside, no sleeve needed. The premium choice for hot karak, filter coffee and upmarket venues. Prints beautifully.

Ripple wall

Like double wall but with a corrugated outer layer — maximum grip and a craft, artisanal feel loved by specialty roasters. Best for hot service in 8oz–16oz.

Kraft / eco

Unbleached natural-brown board, often FSC-certified. The sustainability signal for newer specialty cafés and resorts. Minimalist branding shines on kraft.

Cold cups

A moisture-resistant lining engineered for ice and condensation — essential through the long Gulf summer for iced coffee, cold brew and juice. 12oz and 16oz dominate.

Quick guide

| Use case | Best cup |

|----------|----------|

| Hot karak / filter, premium feel | Double wall || Busy café, tight budget | Single wall || Specialty / craft branding | Ripple or kraft || Iced coffee, juice, summer | Cold cup (12/16oz) || Sustainability positioning | Kraft / FSC |

Match the construction to the drink and the venue, and your cups do quiet marketing on every table.
